Majolica Mania

February 27 - August 7

The Walters chronicles the once-popular ceramic form that sprang up in Victorian England and the U.S. in the 1850s. An affordable alternative to porcelain that appeared in humble homes as well as royal palaces, majolica abruptly fell out of vogue in the mid-20th century when it was discovered that lead glazes used in its production were toxic to workers. This exhibit features 350 objects made by the world’s finest factories on both sides of the pond.
